DF Pre-Southampton Presser

"In September if you told me after 45 games, we would have 90 points and there would still be a possibility of achieving autos, I would have said no chance".

What if I told you in April that you only needed 10 points from 7 games to win automatic promotion!

Love that he's staying positive...it's all still to play for, got to have the belief now.

The problem with some of these guys not being the 'end product' is that if you don't make the premier League the premier league vultures and agents push for moves and it can be another side that gets the benefit of that end product.

Yep👍.

He also indicated (can’t remember where in the Presser) that Leeds had never been in control of autos, that we had always been in a chasing position … I actually don’t think that’s true and I’m almost certain (can’t be @rsed to trawl through past results tbh) that our destiny for auto promotion was in our hands at least twice during the latter part of the season.

👍 … other articles on here have argued (quite well imho) how many of our 1st team squad are likely to go if we don’t make promotion this season.

Watched the Farke interview and it gives me great concern. All this nonsense about having done well for a first season and it’s a long term plan just tells me he’s getting his excuses ready for the ultimate failure of play offs.

If his team talks are anything like it we’re done. Just admitted you’ve bottled it the last few weeks.

Also heard Farke quoted several times when asked at various points about our league position that he looks at that with 6 games to go. So given that our levels ,(him especially beyond the players)have dropped significantly in those last games ,again it doesn't reflect well on him.

Thinking about the atmosphere on Saturday
ideally Huddersfield win and we do we go up and it's all smiles, Farke and the lads go round the ground collecting the plaudits as they do after each and every win, celebrating with the crowd.
But should we win and Ipswich win or draw, we don't go up, to the crowd it will feel like a loss.
Might be better than losing but only just about.
Not looking forward to Saturday at all.

Sounds like a strong team will be picked and I'm guessing Bamford will probably be okay and Farke is just letting Southampton think we'll set up similar to the QPR game when PB was missing.

So with DJ out I think DF will revert to the early 2024 team...
Meslier
Archie
Firpo
Ampadu
Rodon
Gruev
Kamara
Gnonto
Rutter
Bamford
Summerville

That’s definitely not true, and I think at one point we were truly top…although I can’t find any evidence.

Honestly, would be very Leeds to beat them Sat and lose to them at Wembley.

What happens if a miracle occurs Saturday, does Farke and the team take the credit?..

Or as we've got it fixed in our heads if the win the play offs, do they take the credit?..

Only trying to work things out because there was once upon a time we were a long way behind!..

And yes, we were in first place once or twice, but teams just behind us had two or three games in hand to claw their way back, but hey, I still think we've done great to get from where we were to where we are and still have a chance to go further!..

There are others in the league that'd love to change places!..

Morning all🌞.

Many thanks Jonty for looking that up - I was almost certain that was the case. It does DF no favours to make false claims that can be disproved.

I think Bamfords injured for this one which is a shame as I think we are a better side with him in despite what posters think on here.

I genuinely wish Farke well despite some concerns about his own managerial performance when it most mattered but that's now for me a line drawn in the sand for which he has to learn from and do better otherwise there will be serious consequences.

Therefore I'm now certain that the manner in which we perform in our remaining games which could be up to 4 will determine Farke's bacon because the owners are well aware of the position we were in after 38 games and how badly the team and DF have fallen away and this will be a major point for discussion when a review of the season takes place.

Now if we get promoted it's a no brainier DF is safe for the time being and even if we don't get through via the play offs as long as we go down in a glorious ball of flames leaving every sinew and drop of sweat on the field then that I think will at least have left a positive and hope for the future impression.

If however we perform meakly and get knocked out without laying a glove and our promotion campaign ends with a whimper then the owners will be seriously concerned enough to make a managerial change.

I think a strong candidate to succeed DF would be Steve Cooper who is available and seen by many as an astute and tough no nonsense coach with a promotion pedigree and so if it does go pear shaped I would not be surprised if events went in that direction but first off Saturday and I personally want Farke to be successful at Leeds and wanr to see a polar opposite performance to that horror show we witnessed last time out.

If we sack Farke (and I would), my first choice would, naturally, be Graham Potter. Rejected us last summer, but might have found the lack of a PL job forthcoming a sign that maybe he needs to step back.

Not a big fan of Steve Cooper. Was very reliant on several over-performing loans to get promoted, albeit very dramatically, and then huge investment to just about stay up. Wouldn't be the worst choice, but not in my top three.

All a bit premature, really. If we manage to find ourselves, we should be favourites for the play-offs. Not convinced that will happen, mind.

Great analysis, Macca, but we tailed off badly in our first season under Bielsa and came back firing in the second. If we don’t go up, I think they will give Farke a couple of months. He will have a full pre-season and he will bring in players he wants. He won’t be dealing with unrest in the camp either. We know he’s a good coach and we have seen a huge improvement in our young players in particular. I can’t see them changing at this stage.

posted 4 weeks ago

Think the fundamental difference between Bielsa and Farke is that I could tell you how we were meant to be playing under the former. There was a recognisable plan, an approach. Sometimes it didn't work, but it was there, and I was willing to buy into that and give it the time it needed.

That isn't the case now. Its football by vibes, and hoping that the flair players we have at the attacking end of the pitch manage to change the game, but not facilitating that happening with any tactical approach. If that fails, take of the midfield and throw on as many attackers as possible.

Its not tenable.

I think we will have unrest again if we dont go up and unrest again if we do.

If we dont go up, some players will want to leave and we saw the lengths gone to last summer so we know that potential is there, PLUS he has to deal with loanees potentially coming back.

If we go up, we are even more likely to have to deal with loanees coming back, so I think unrest either way.
