FFP.

It's been much commented upon that with the quiet transfer window is down to UEFA's FFP rules being about to come into effect. In the build-up to the introduction of these new rules, many sought to ridicule them, but on the eve of their introduction, clubs seem to be taking them seriously.

If enforced properly, we stand to benefit hugely from them whereas other clubs will have to alter their spending behaviours and adapt to a new way of football where reckless spending is no longer feasible.

They say the night is darkest just before the dawn, or someone said it in one of the Batman movies at least, and this has been a relatively arduous season for us gooners. But are we about to finally see some reward for running our club in a proper manner?

Altho the Fly Emirates and Nike deals could've been worth more money. The timing of the deal ending and FFP coming in is good news bros

Man City have been preparing for FFP for a couple of years now. They have bought a huge squad with little intention of actually playing them - they will simply sell a few of these surplus players to offset their high spending on wages

i do so love it when people spout off without knowing what they're talking about.

we are, as has been stated, one of the 5 richest clubs in the world in terms of turnover.

Until we built the emirates while we might not have spent stupid money, we certainly spent - wenger has never been afraid to spend, but he is also an economist (my god, a football manager with a degree in something else!) and realises that the best way to set the club up for the future is to get the debts paid off as soon as humanly possible, so he has steered away from big signings in order to do that - everything possible is filtered over to paying those debts off.

The up shot of all that is that by the time the ffp fully kicks in, our repayments will be much lower than currently, meaning we can start kicking on, just as other clubs have to start thinking about reining in.

i can't see it benefitting us a great deal. the same teams with big money will continue to have more money than us and now we shall struggle to sell, which we need to do desperately, our squad is too big.

I'm actually quite against the FFP rules, I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to spend as much money as you have on buying a player. Besides there's no way to enforce it properly as there's too many ways around it.

I do think a wage cap is absolutely necessary though, it might bring back some of the loyalty which has almost completely gone from today's game.

It is to protect clubs, who have a sugar daddy running up huge losses and then departing when he has had enough of his toy. Abramovich or Sheik Mansour may be in it for the long haul, but there may be others who may not be.

UEFA have decided that under European law, a salary cap cannot be imposed so FFP is the way round it.

As for clubs riding through the rules, Chelsea are in favour of it according to their press releases for example and whilst I do not know if the rules can be enforced, UEFA have not scribbled these rules on the back of a cigarette packet. They will have run them past top lawyers.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what quality of lawyers UEFA have employed because the clubs have better ones on retainer.

Man City have already ridden a coach and horses through the rules with the huge naming rights awarded to their stadium. It will be impossible for UEFA to prove that Man City did anything unreasonable. Therefore 'sugar daddy' model will always remain.

What FFP will do is stop the likes of Everton, Sunderland and Stoke from over extending themselves. But since their main ambition is staying in the league, a UEFA ban on Europa Cup is not going to effect them in the slightest.
