Tommy Tuchel

This rumour seems to be gaining a bit of traction, with Ornstein reporting today that Tuchel wants the United job.

Honestly never really known how to feel about him. His record at PSG and Bayern is a bit underwhelming (though of course could still leave Bayern with a CL), but I guess these are two pretty difficult and volatile jobs for a manager. He wasn't helped at Chelsea either with the Abramovich situation. Up until that point he was doing a good job if memory serves.

I can't say I've ever been blown away watching his sides but he's clearly a top coach. Definintely closer to Ancelotti than Pep on the manager spectrum in that he's never seemed welded to a particular style of play, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps when the whole club is in a state of flux, someone of his experience and flexibility is what we need.

They never looked like scoring when Davies did either though but you have to at least give yourself a chance until the final minute. Real deserved the win but don’t take off Kane, Musiala and Sane and bring on a player who was terrible last week, and old Muller and Chupo-Moting. It was a terrible call.

Weird call on the de Ligt offside, he was actually on and even if he wasn’t the linesman’s is supposed to wait for play to finish.

But the point was to see the game out, looking at the names and not how the game played out doesn’t make it a terrible decision, that’s just hindsight. Neuer cost his team with his howler, not the coach subbing some attackers off that were playing shiiiit.

Couldn’t tell if it was on, but that was a bad decision by the officials not to let it play out.

It’s not hindsight though as I thought it was a very naive move before Real’s goals. Thinking you’re gonna hold on with over 15 minutes to go at the Bernabeu is stupid and 2 of the subs didn’t even give Bayern better defensive options. Take off 1, maybe 2 of your attackers but not all of them.

It is because you cannot legislate for a keeper making a howler. People go so over the top with criticisms of substitution based of if, buts and maybes. If they’re directly contributing to a loss it a different matter, but that’s not the case here, and it happens is so many other instances of football. Bayern were beaten once that equaliser went it, which was down to Neuer.

Anyway, mental Real are gonna win their 6th CL in 11 years. That’s only 1 less than the club with the second highest number of CL titles.

They’re something else in this competition.

Tuchel is quoted as saying Kane had a back injury and couldn't play on, and nor was Musiala. Apparently they were enforced substitutions, not tactical ones.

Explains why they were so shiiiiit and could barely run at the end.
