Bristol Rovers 1 - 1 Derby County

BRISTOL ROVERS v DERBY COUNTY League 1 # 42

1500 Memorial Stadium Saturday 15th April 2023

Once again, Derby have conspired in a spooky way to suck the joy out of being a Rams fan with a lacklustre draw against MK Dons - which is the Derby way I suppose? Its the hope wot kills you

After a strange game v MK Dons, where really we did expect more and didn't get much, its back to Bristol on Saturday for a tricky game which could either be a loss or a win or a draw.

Yep, it's the Derby Way

Another away sell out - boy, are some of these teams going to miss our cash injection if we go up. But that is tempting fate and for once, I have not booked a parking slot in London in expectation.

So, play-offs are still a possibility but apart from the home leg, its difficult to see beyond this, but you never know.

Team news:- Wildsmith (GK), Hourihane, Cashin, Barkhuizen, Collins, McGoldrick (C), Mendez-Laing, Smith, Roberts, Rooney, Knight.

Subs:- McGee (GK), Forsyth, Bird, Sibley, Dobbin,White, Davies.

The other team: Belshaw (GK), Connolly, Gordon, Finley (C), Sinclair, G Ward, Collins, Gibson, Anderson, Bogarde, Hoole..........................................................................................................................................................Subs: J Ward (GK), Loft, Marquis, Evans, Coburn, Gibbons, McCormick.

Belated congratulations to Mr and Mrs Heb! (We are 6 hours behind you over here so I'm often late with nearly everything.)

Two of us on here have asked who people would want to replace PW with (if of course it ever got that far and even assuming we could afford to sack and replace which we cannot). No-one has made any suggestions because there is no-one available, no-one good enough or no-one cheap enough for us in our position. It's as simple as that.

Is PW a good manager? His track record says he is. Does he have any imagination? His different formations, selections and substitutions for us suggest he has. Why is all this not currently achieving much? Because he has a limited and unbalanced squad available. In other words he could have done little if anything more to get better results.

I think everyone agrees that it needs a certain type of manager to get a team out of this League. Surely that is DC's and every fan's aim. PW is probably better than most in that regard, certainly out of the pool of likely candidates for the job if it were available.

And yes, in the end is does come down to allowing PW time to assemble his own squad (probably at least two seasons from now). Remember that even the great Brian Clough and Jim Smith had no early success when taking over DCFC management.

By responding to these posts it looks like Im fighting in the opposite corner, but Im not. I like PW & I want him to be successful with us.
I dont think the question of who should replace him needs answering, as I dont think there will be a vacancy for manager in the near future, and Im not a big enough student of the game to suggest an alternative anyway.
I certainly didnt know much about PW until he took the job at our club.

It can make no difference now but a different camera angle shows it was NOT a penalty but WAS a foul on White. Derbys Live has a link to Owen Bradley's tweet which clearly shows this.
