With this season now, basically of no interest now, someone needs to NOW start looking at how next season needs to look like.
For me ( in this order )
1. Get ride of Conte.
2. Employ a young, forward thinking manager that will provide the sort of football we want. Someone like Kompany. Just think back to how Burnley played and compare with how he is getting them to play, literally from the day he walked into the club. It was, frankly, like looking at a totally different team.
3. Dump the 523 formation.
4. Buy a quality Keeper. W e all know that can be worth 10/12 points a seaseon.
5. Ensure we play on the front foot, not spending 70% of every match in our own half, too scared to concede anything ( but usually conceding anyway - eg today against a team who apparently can't score.
6. Get ride of every CB apart from Romero. Take loses if you have to, but get ride.
7. Employ someone to work specifically with Son, to teach him how to play again. If he can't, then again get ride.
8. I pipe dream I know, but get Levy to move into the 21st century when it comes to spending money on the first team squad. If he won't, then there is no point in him being there.
There are probably several other priorities, but the above is a bear minimum between now and August.

I'd agree with most of that but even taking a loss on certain players I'm not sure a fair few will go? Decent wages, living in London, and are there clubs out there who'd want them?

Fortunately we don’t own Lenglet so can just give him back. Sanchez and Dier have to go and I’m sure we will get nibbles for them. Davies is fine as a back up, no need to get rid. Tanganga - low wages and home grown, can’t imagine he will stop us spending.
Dier cost £4m - we won’t take a loss on him
Sanchez £45m - faaaack me, Poch needs shooting for that one
Davies was more or less £8m - but I would keep
Lenglet a loan
Tanganga - home grown
Romero we want to keep
So it’s only Sanchez we will take a loss on

Yeh Sanchez is a mystery? Thought at the time he looked a decent signing but has disappointed big time, got the physical skills to be better but just has brain fart in him every game? The rest you're bang on with but that said the cost of getting new players in the amount that is needed could be prohibitive dependant on what Levy allows for a budget?

That was more you not being clear.
To answer your question - we have been knocked out of the 5th round four seasons running - 3 times by Championship sides and 1 time by a side who finished bottom of the Prem the same season. Each time we fielded a weakened side only to play a full strength team a few days later in a Prem game - I call that throwing the game away.
Conversely City put a full strength side out against Burnley at home today and got their reward.
