Where's the Killer Instinct Theo?

I noticed yesterday that although Walcott had a decent game, he let himself down in terms of finishing moves off.

He got Wheater sent off for what I thought was a premeditated fall. There was contact from the defender but it was minimal and Walcott went down easily (he didn't dive). A really hungry striker, and that is what he claims to be in all these endless interviews, would have stayed on his feet and buried the chance into the back of the net.

Later on he missed a very simple one on one with the goalkeeper. Although I think he's a good finisher, he was very tentative in front of goal yesterday, and that is not what you want to see from someone who is as outspoken about where 'he was born to play' as Walcott is.

"From an outsiders perspective, i have noticed Walcott likes to take his shots VERY early, usually to before the keeper can get his footing right, sometimes it works, sometimes like yesterday it didnt"

From outside the box when he had lots of time to get in there and slot it home. I think the reason he takes his shots early as you say, is he has little confidence in his own abilities to beat someone 1 on 1.

Jon - I know my view counts for very little being a Spurs fan ...but i never think Walcott lacks confidence when in on goal, i just think his decision making isnt always the best, the chance yesterday hits me as Walcott wanting to score a brilliant goal, where as he should have just taken a few touches, ran in on goal and slotted it in

I don't think anyone can figure out Walcott just yet. Not sure even he can figure himself out. One minute you think you have him all worked out and bam! He does something out of the ordinary.

He scored a class goal in the CL coming in from the left with a similar finish and he's tried it a few times since. The thing with Theo is he's inconsistent but even when he has a poor game he's still a threat because of his pace. Hopefully as he gets older he gets consistency as well.

A Spurs supporter lol. Oh well good banter I do have to add I think Bale should have come with Walcott when he left Southampton, oh well.

Are you serious?

Why aren't you writing a post of how Gervinho failed to control the ball when he was against the keeper, one on one?

Theo was excellent yesterday. And in fact he is vital to the team. The people who criticise Theo have no idea how he changes the game and the opposition has to adjust to him. And that nugget comes from Pep Guradiola. You know? The manager of the greatest team in history?

Did you see the difference in how England played against Wales (when he didn't play) compared to the much harder Bulgaria away, in the game before?

Theo's finishing is superb. Always has been and he actually does it in the big games. Every striker has games where he just cant score. Thats not criticism of technique or decision making. And you are criticising him for going down theatrically? Really? After watching what has been done to us and to the lengths we have to go to get decision from a ref? Laughable comment. So how was Theo supposed to get to the ball before the keeper after he was pulled back?

so we win 3-0, with one of them laid on perfectly by walcott, and still people are slating him?

how about praising the keeper on his chance for sorting his feet out quickly, getting down well and making a good save? but no, of course our wonderful fans imediately slate walcott for missing the chance rather than say well done to the keeper for making a good save.

It seems certain players, no matter what they do, will always get slagged off.
