ref-a %^&$%ree

Canadian goalie holds the ball too long and
the ref gave a free kick,no prior warning
or yellow card.My main Query is this.
Have any of you ever seen a free kick
given in this circumstance?.No sour grapes
just a wee bit bit miffed as a U.S player has admitted
counting out the seconds for the ref to hear
Apart from that it was a terrific match..

It infuriates me that it doesn't happen more often. Why should there be a prior warning? The players know the rules. The first year of the rule free kicks were given pretty often for this, but it seems to have been forgotten as time has gone on.

It happened in a Newcastle V Bolton match one year. Shearer scored from the indirect free kick.

Just goes to prove that if you want to beat the US of A at anything, you have to give them a real hammering to walk away from the game or event with anything to show for it.

Canadian girls gave all they had and more but it just wasn't enough to overcome a superbly fit team who simply wouldn't give up even if they did have more than just luck on their side.

Great to see football played with 100% commitment from all players throughout the 124 minutes of play with no signs of simulation, diving or playacting.

Much more entertaining than watching so many EPL games. Too bad the standard of refereeing was about the same.

Was a terrific game. Far better than many epl games. Played with drive, determination and no little skill. Was a shame about the free kick but those are the rules and should be refereed according in every game. I didn't think it was a peno though.

I would just like to referees to be consistent,
as some warn and some flash the card
If the goalie knows there will be a
free-kick given every time it would
make a big difference and cut out
with the dilly-dallying .Thanks for the input .
